Janet Finch-Saunders is the newly elected Assembly Member for the constituency of Aberconwy, holding the portfolio of "Shadow Minister for Local Government" within the National Assembly's official Opposition.

Janet has represented the ward of Craig-y-Don and Craig side in Llandudno as a Conwy County Borough Councillor since 2004 and as a Llandudno Town Councillor since 1994. In 2004 Janet was elected as the Mayor of Llandudno, following in the footsteps of her Father and late Mother, both of whom had also been long serving Welsh Conservative Councillors.

In her previous council role of Cabinet member on the local authority, Janet held the portfolio for Community Safety, Disabilities and Equalities, Food Safety, Animal Welfare, Trading Standards, Member Development and the Welsh language. In 2008 Janet became the Welsh Conservative Group Leader and Leader of the Opposition on Conwy County Borough Council.

Since the Assembly came into being Janet has been very involved within the Welsh political scene, having fought the seat for the Conservatives in Wrexham in 2003, whilst at the same time securing the no 3 position on the North Wales regional P.R. list, narrowly missing out by just 73 votes. She succeeded in retaining the no 3 slot once again in 2007 following a party ballot, almost securing the seat for the Welsh Conservative Party.

In July 2010 following the first ever open primary selection to be held in the target seat of Aberconwy, Janet was selected as the Conservative Welsh Assembly Candidate in an open hustings. Janet then succeeded in winning the Assembly election on May 5th to become the Welsh Conservative Assembly member for Aberconwy.

Well known across the Constituency, she has campaigned on many issues, including down grades to Llandudno hospital, the removal of the neurological services from Walton, the closure of the local E.M.I. facility and the LDP over development of green field sites. In particular she has challenged many policy directives that have emanated from the W.A.G. Schemes such as the proposed Gwynt-y-Mor windfarm scheme, and many other local issues.

Janet is also a long standing campaigner for increased direct funding for the local hospice movement, and passionate about supporting much needed investment and economic growth within Aberconwy.

Janet holds regular constituency surgeries at her new office at 29 Madoc Street, Llandudno. Please contact the office to make an appointment on 01492 871198.
