JANET FINCH-SAUNDERS urges others to speak up for maternity services at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd
The Welsh Conservative AM for Aberconwy, Janet Finch-Saunders has condemned proposals to downgrade maternity services at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.
The plans will see consultant-led maternity care withdrawn from the hospital due to recruitment challenges facing the Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board. In its place, a midwifery led unit would be established at the hospital and patients with more complex births would be transferred to either Bangor or Wrexham.
Janet Finch-Saunders AM said:
“These proposals could put the lives of mothers and their babies at risk.”
“It is clear the Health Board has failed to consult with the patients and staff who will be affected by these plans.”
The announcement comes just nine months after the First Minister, Carwyn Jones AM appeared to have rubber stamped a new neonatal intensive care centre at the hospital.
The AM said:
“The people of Aberconwy will quite rightly, now question the hospital’s future and the word of the First Minister.”
Concerned that the Welsh Government has failed to get a grip of this situation, the AM called on members of the public to write to Carwyn Jones and call on the Welsh Government to step in and prevent these proposals becoming reality, saying:
“Fill the First Minister’s mail box, make your opinions heard.”
