Pembrokeshire council Porsche ‘scandal’

Commenting on reported confirmation that the former chief executive of Pembrokeshire council – recently embroiled in controversy following a severance deal – was given a Porsche lease car as part of a pay deal during his time in charge, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Local Government Janet Finch-Saunders AM, said:

“This ludicrous revelation will astound communities right across Wales.

“How on earth can any council chief defend their right to a top of the range Porsche, paid for by the public purse?

“This may’ve got Mr Jones to meetings a bit quicker – and in luxurious comfort – but it flies in the face of any sense of value for public money.

“Over-inflated senior pay and a lack of Labour government leadership have left the future of Welsh councils in disarray.

“While local authorities scrutinise the figures and consider cuts and mergers following Labour’s tough financial settlement, this scandal will do nothing to restore confidence.”
