ABERCONWY AM advises Jordanian Parliament on Welsh Local Government process
Today the Assembly Member for Aberconwy, Janet Finch-Saunders, welcomed delegates from the Jordanian Parliament to the National Assembly for Wales to discuss the devolved arrangements in the United Kingdom. The visitors are currently scrutinising decentralisation legislation in Jordan.
As the Shadow Minister for Local Government and Member of the Communities, Equality and Local Government Committee, the AM was invited, along with two Assembly Member colleagues to share her knowledge of the functions, structure and delivery of Welsh Local Authorities, and their relationship with central government.
Top of the agenda were talks on the relationship between the five tiers of governance in Wales: Town and Community Councils; Local Authorities; National Assembly for Wales; UK Parliament; and European Parliament. Also discussed was the number of politicians in Wales, their pay and scrutiny.
The AM said:
“I was delighted to share my experience of devolution and the Local Government process with the Parliamentary delegation from Jordan.”
“I look forward to seeing how the information provided will be utilised in the nation’s decentralisation process.”
