Assembly Member for Aberconwy, Janet Finch-Saunders, has called for greater moves by the Welsh Government to extend sport and leisure activities to socially excluded children and young people.
Speaking during Plenary, the AM said: “Socially excluded children and young people are often the least likely to achieve academically. Research by the Princes Trust has shown that such groups are also more likely to experience feelings of isolation and even depression in later life.
“When children and young people are supported to engage in sport and leisure it restores their confidence and sense of self worth.
“I have called on the Minister for Culture and Sport, John Griffiths AM, to ensure that all children and young people are given the opportunity to access such activity to prevent any child becoming left behind.”
