ABERCONWY AM demands action over the GP out-of-hours services
During today’s Plenary session, the Assembly Member for Aberconwy, Janet Finch-Saunders, questioned the Deputy Minister for Health, Vaughan Gething AM, in light of the findings of a leaked report on the GP out-of-hours service in North Wales.
The document stated that 84% of staff interviewed the service was “not safe.” The Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board commissioned report revealed service failures in almost every area of assessment against the 2006 Welsh Government Standards.
The AM said:
“I was shocked to read that three nurses have been suspended on full pay for three years and that the service is ultimately understaffed and poorly managed.”
The AM pointed out that the Welsh Government had the mandatory duty and powers to intervene asking:
“At what stage will you take your role seriously?”
Finally pointing out that the leadership issues have been on-going for far too long she asked the Deputy Minister, at what stage he would intervene and how bad would things get?
