After receiving the honour of opening Y Clwb Community Bar in Glan Conwy, Janet Finch-Saunders, Assembly Member for Aberconwy, has spoken of her delight at this community project and the positive impact it is having on the area.

Having cut the ribbon, Janet said:

“I am delighted to have been asked to officially open Y Clwb.  Indeed, this is a true community bar.

“It would not be here today but for the selflessness of numerous individuals, businesses, Ruthin Football Club, and Llansanffraid Glan Conwy Community Council.

“In addition to providing a wonderful venue by the football pitch and with breath-taking views across the Conwy estuary, I know that the bar has an aim of raising money for the community. Already, I believe that the local sports association, Glan Conwy Football Club, and the Youth Club have benefited.

“Anyone wanting to know that their relaxing drink and bite to eat is helping a local community should certainly consider visiting Y Clwb.

“I certainly hope to return, and would like to express my thanks to all who have made this community bar a reality”.

One of the key organisers, Cllr Dan Worsley, explained how the community bar came together:

“Last August Ruthin Football Club kindly donated the building to Glan Conwy Football Club provided it could be moved immediately.  Local company Buckley’s Cranes very kindly brought the building back without charging a penny.

“The building was in a poor state with a leaking roof, collapsed ceilings and holes in the floor.  However, an appeal to the Community Council secured a grant of £10,000 towards the refurbishment. We also received significant help from Mr Howard Vaughan, Director of Brenig Construction, Mr Bob Paton, Mr Dave Moore, and a series of local tradesmen.

“I am grateful to everyone who has given their support and volunteered their time and skills to get the job done.

“The resulting transformation is staggering and is a tremendous example of what can be done when the community all pulls together.

“I am pleased to report that the support and feedback from the local community continues to be very positive, and that the bar is open every day to one and all.

“If you have any questions, please email me on danworsley@hotmail, or visit Y Clwb to chat with our friendly manager”.
