Welsh Conservative Assembly Member has urged the Welsh Government to act now to increase standards in the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and prevent the mistakes of Mid-Staffordshire hospital becoming commonplace in Wales.
Speaking during Plenary, Janet said “The right to be treated with dignity, safety and compassion in hospital must be at the centre of the NHS. I welcome the ‘Delivering Safe Care, Compassionate Care’ response to the Francis Report and its aim of putting patients at the centre of the Welsh NHS.
“But the current situation is shambolic, Betsi Cadwaladr shares some stark similarities with Mid Staffs with both the break down in communication between senior managers and a lack of faith in the internal structures on the part of senior doctors at Ysbyty Gwynedd. In a personal capacity, I have received casework detailing numerous delayed operations, outrageous waiting times, cancelled appointments and a lack of responses to serious clinical issues
“The Welsh Government needs to take tangible action now to address the failures of Betsi Cadwaladr and outline what it will do to remedy the situation. The people of Aberconwy, and North Wales more widely, deserve better than the abysmal service they have come to expect from their NHS.”
