Commenting on the news that Wales will achieve the milestone of offering everyone in the first four priority groups a vaccination by the end of this weekend, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy and the Welsh Conservative Older People’s Champion – Janet Finch-Saunders MS – said:
“This vaccination roll-out programme is a true community success story that underscores the importance of Wales working with its partners across the United Kingdom. From the cleaners and desk clerks; the cooks and backroom staff; to our frontline health staff, caregivers and volunteers – the effort on a local level has rightly placed community spirit at the fore.
“Our brilliant Coronavirus responders are a true testament to their profession, and once again highlight why our National Health Service, our care providers and our armed forces will forever remain the pride of Aberconwy, Wales and the United Kingdom. We stand with you as this roll-out programme continues.
“Importantly, the UK Government’s decisive and early action to opt out of the disastrous EU vaccination programme has been fully vindicated and ensured that Wales has had a steady stream of vaccines available to meet this target. This was essential to protect the most vulnerable in our society.
“We should be in no doubt that a long road remains ahead of us, with second doses still to be administered to those individuals most at risk and over three quarters of the population now requiring their first jab. But this is rightly a significant milestone for local residents, as we look to recover from the pandemic and rebuild North Wales.”
