The Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy – Janet Finch-Saunders MS – has today (10 August) welcomed a commitment to improve the current traffic conditions around the Black Cat roundabout, which have built up as a result of ongoing road improvement works.

The progress follows conversations between Mrs Finch-Saunders and the North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agent (NMWTRA), who have been tasked with delivering the improvements at Junction 19 of the A55 on behalf of the Welsh Government. The roadworks includes a widening of the junction, the construction of safer crossings for pedestrians and cyclists, and the installation of traffic signals at key locations.

Commenting on the commitment from the Welsh Government, Janet said:

“Many constituents have contacted my office with concerns over the tailbacks formed as a result of these roadworks. This traffic is negatively affecting the daily commute and often leaves residents and visitors stuck idling for almost forty minutes.

“Following conversations with the Welsh Government, I am delighted that the programme manager has committed to investigating all avenues to alleviate the current traffic problems.

“This is a crucial commitment to ensure that the current tailbacks are minimised, and to ensure that traffic flows much faster along both carriageways. This commitment is also beneficial to the environment and public health, as less particulate matter will be emitted from exhausts during long waiting periods.

“Likewise, I am also pleased to have secured a commitment from the Welsh Government to erect signs ahead of the new Glan Conwy zebra crossing, to ensure cars are warned of the alteration in good time.

“These are both positive signs of progress, and I deeply value the patience and unwavering support of Glan Conwy residents in my work petitioning for local improvements.”
