The Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy - Janet Finch-Saunders MS – has today (23 November) welcomed the introduction of temporary signs, as well as a visibility assessment to determine more permanent measures, as a means of improving safety around the new zebra crossing in Glan Conwy.
This update comes as a result of continued conversations between Mrs Finch-Saunders, Welsh Government officials and the North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agent (NMWTRA).
Commenting on the commitments, Janet said:
“Following concerns raised about the safety of the zebra crossing in Glan Conwy, I made urgent representations to the Welsh Government which resulted in the introduction of temporary signage. I now welcome the news that the Trunk Road agent will undertake a crucial visibility assessment to determine more permanent measures.
“Among those lasting measures under consideration is the introduction of buff coloured, anti-skid surfacing on the approach to the crossing. Officials inform me that this surfacing is designed to help drivers identify the crossing on their approach. Greater awareness of the crossing should help road users to moderate their speed in good time, decreasing the risk to pedestrians.
“For around eight years I have been working with the community to secure a zebra crossing for Glan Conwy. We have protested, and I have written letters and asked numerous questions of Welsh Government ministers. I welcome this positive sign of progress as a means to protect pedestrians, and I will continue to monitor the situation to ensure commitments are met.
“I deeply value the patience and unwavering support of Glan Conwy residents in my work petitioning for these essential local road improvements, that further cements the area as a great place to live and work. I urge local residents with any further concerns on the matter to email my office as a priority, so that actions can be taken.”
