PRESS RELEASE:
Janet Finch-Saunders AM has added her voice to the call to instil accountability to Wales in broadcasting, while maintaining a pluralistic media in Wales.
The AM said: “Welsh Conservatives have today called for those who broadcast in Wales, to be more accountable to Wales. We believe that greater accountability would encourage a greater parity in how the people of Wales would be provided with comprehensive news on matters that significantly affect their lives.
“Our Presiding Officer, Rosemary Butler AM, has talked frequently about the democratic deficit in Wales. It is fair to say that there is a lack of coverage of Welsh affairs in the British media when compared with Scottish issues, for example.
“I hope as we approach the BBC’s charter renewal in 2017 we can debate how the Assembly can complement Westminster’s scrutiny of BBC Wales and help safeguard plurality in Welsh broadcasting.”
