PRESS RELEASE
Assembly Member for Aberconwy, Janet Finch-Saunders, has urged the Welsh Government to support families affected by high levels of personal debt.
In questions to the Minister for Communities and Tackling Poverty, Jeff Cuthbert AM, The Assembly Member highlighted the report by the Centre for Social Justice which has shown that the average level of household debt is £54,000.
She said: “The CSJ’s report has shown an increase of £25,000 in the average level of household debt in Wales. This can have serious implications for people’s mental health; family structure; employment and addiction levels. I have challenged the Minister to use already existing schemes in Wales, such as Communities First, to provide people with the right support to manage their debt and improve financial literacy.”
