Nine North and Mid Wales Assembly Members joined together to take part in a fundraising walk for Velindre Cancer Care, in support of their colleague, Plaid Cymru AM Steffan Lewis – who was diagnosed with Stage Four bowel cancer in December 2017.
The politicians were joined by staff, local Councillors, walking groups, friends, and even Ken Skates AM’s dog – Thumper – tackling more than five miles between the Cross Keys pub in Llandudno to the Cross Keys pub in Penrhynside.
A South Wales valleys walk – held in the Cross Keys area – was the inspiration for the day
“It was wonderful to see so many AMs from across the political divide join together to raise funds and awareness for such a marvellous cause.
“As of Monday, over £11,500 ha been raised – almost four times the original fundraising target!
“The weather was kind to us – and saw a wonderful crowd turn out on the day.
“Steffan’s story has touched so many people – and his bravery and honesty in talking so openly about his experience is truly inspiring.
“That he has received such exemplary care and support from Velindre has clearly been of great comfort to his family also, and it is fantastic that these walks have been able to raise such funds to enable them to continue this valuable work.”
