The Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy – Janet Finch-Saunders MS – has spoken out in the Welsh Parliament today at the need for Mark Drakeford MS, First Minister, to take a tougher stance against home builders in Wales refusing to fix all unsafe tall buildings they have had a role in developing.

The Rt Hon Michael Gove MP has seen major homebuilders accounting for half of new homes pledge to fix all unsafe tall buildings they have had a role in developing, however the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy highlighted to the Senedd that whilst some developers have agreed to address problems in England, the Welsh Government has not secured such a commitment for Wales.

Speaking after scrutinising the First Minister, Janet said:

“Almost five years on from the Grenfell Tower tragedy, residents in Wales are still living in tinderboxes.

“Thanks to the Rt Hon Michael Gove MP, major homebuilders accounting for half of new homes have pledged to fix all unsafe tall buildings they have had a role in developing. However, here in Wales, many residents are in despair because whilst the UK Government has secured a commitment from developers in England, the Welsh Government has not done so for Wales.

“The UK Government has proven that progress can be made through taking a robust stance with developers.  The First Minister should do the same here in Wales”.
