Janet Finch-Saunders AM has called for clarity from the Welsh Government on their proposals to reform local government and services in Conwy and north Wales.
Janet said:
“Our hardworking families in Conwy want safe and secure local services, delivered in an efficient and cost effective way. I believe that public services are best delivered locally, so taxpayers can hold local representatives to account for what happens in their community.
“The Welsh Government need to provide clarity on what local government reform will mean for the people of Conwy and north Wales, and how their plans for regional consortia will be democratically accountable.
“Local communities who face year-on-year 5% rises on their bills will hope that the small increase in Conwy’s local government settlement outlined by the Welsh Government today, will result in some respite being passed on by the local authority.
“Conwy need to look at new, smarter, more open ways of working – taking examples of best practice from local authorities such as Monmouthshire County Council – who publish all expenditure online to allow for full public scrutiny.
“I will continue to call for full openness and accountability at all levels of governance.”
