Janet Finch-Saunders AM, has once more written to the Welsh Labour Government Minister responsible for the roadworks on the A55.
Janet wrote;
"Dear Minister, Edwina,
I am writing once more, with reference to the ongoing roadworks, and resulting traffic delays, on the A55 in North Wales.
Only today, a lorry collided with the Penmaenbach tunnel wall, leaving traffic at a standstill, and hours of delays for many with no alternative route.
As you will be aware, Mayors, Deputy Mayors, and representatives from Bangor, Llanfairfechan, Conwy, Llandudno, Colwyn Bay and Penmaenmawr met at a summit called by the Mayor of Penmaenmawr, Cllr Dafydd Lloyd-Borland, last week to discuss this issue.
It has been highlighted how wide-ranging the social and economic impact of these works are – people, businesses, transport services and emergency services across the region are being affected, many suffering severe disruption.
The lack of any form of consultation with local communities and elected representatives, as well as the lack of provision of information from the North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agency and the Welsh Government, were also subjects of discussion and concern.
I understand that the meeting resolved to call on you, as the Minister responsible, to visit the area to see the massive disruption being caused. It was also resolved to urge the North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agency to consult and inform communities on all major projects of a similar nature in the future. Additionally, the summit felt that it was important that, in the case of the Penmaenbach tunnel works, the same procedures employed during works on other trunk roads in North Wales (i.e. A5, A483) – night time working, or at least ensuring clear roads at peak times – should be used.
My purpose in writing to you is to advise of my support for the above notes of the meeting, in particular to the call for a Ministerial visit.
I look forward to your timely response to this, and my letter of 4th November 2015.
Yours sincerely,
Janet
Janet Finch-Saunders AM/AC"
