“Dangerously inflammatory” language on strikes

The Labour Leaders of the three largest councils in Wales have been accused of using “dangerously inflammatory” language, after expressing support for strikes over public sector pay.

Welsh Conservatives have accused them of hypocrisy, with council and Welsh NHS pay devolved concerns.

Shadow Local Government Secretary, Janet Finch-Saunders, said:

“This is dangerously inflammatory language from members of a party which has in recent weeks all but advocated breaking the law through illegal strike action.

“What’s worse is the fact that these councils could take steps to raise pay independently of strike action.

“The Leader of Cardiff Council has it in his gift to raise pay for his staff, and the Welsh Labour Government could raise pay for Welsh NHS workers.

“These crocodile tears are a cynical attempt to shift the blame for public sector pay in Wales.”
