MILLAR & FINCH-SAUNDERS:  Disappointment as Local Development Plan is Approved

Two North Wales Assembly Members have expressed their disappointment at Conwy Borough Council's decision to approve a controversial development plan for the area.

Clwyd West AM Darren Millar and Aberconwy AM Janet Finch-Saunders have criticised the decision, which could see thousands of new homes built on greenfield sites across the county borough.

The Conwy Local Development Plan met with significant opposition in Abergele, where almost 900 new homes are proposed.

Welsh Conservative councillors voted not to approve the plan, which will now be subjected to a review by the Planning Inspectorate.

Commenting on the news, Darren Millar said:

'I'm very disappointed that the Council have decided to press ahead with the Local Development Plan.

'The housing proposals for the area are unrealistic and unsustainable - they will put a huge strain on local facilities such as schools, health centres and highways.'

Janet Finch-Saunders added:

'The Welsh Labour Government must act to address the democratic deficit in the local development plan process.

'It cannot be right that the area should be forced to sacrifice so many greenfield sites to unnecessary development.'

MILLAR & FINCH-SAUNDERS:  Siom wrth i’r Cynllun Datblygu Leol cael ei gymeradwyo

Mae dau Aelod Cynulliad o Ogledd Cymru wedi mynegi eu siom efo Cynfor Cyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy ar y penderfyniad i gymeradwyo cynllun datblygu dadleuol ar gyfer yr ardal.

Mae’r aelodau dros Orllewin Clwyd Darren Millar ac Aberconwy Janet Finch-Saunders wedi beirniadu'r penderfyniad a allai weld miloedd o gartrefi newydd yn cael eu hadeiladu ar safleoedd maes glas ar draws y fwrdeistref sirol.

Mae'r Cynllun Datblygu Lleol Conwy wedi’i gyfarfod â gwrthwynebiad sylweddol yn Abergele, lle mae bron i 900 o gartrefi newydd yn cael eu cynnig.

Wnaeth Cynghorwyr Ceidwadwyr Cymreig pleidleisio dros beidio â chymeradwyo'r cynllun, a fydd bellach yn destun adolygiad gan yr Arolygiaeth Gynllunio.

Wrth sôn am y newyddion, dywedodd Darren Millar:

“Rwy'n siomedig iawn bod y Cyngor wedi penderfynu bwrw ymlaen â'r Cynllun Datblygu Lleol.

“Mae'r cynigion tai ar gyfer yr ardal yn afrealistig ac yn anghynaladwy - byddant yn rhoi pwysau mawr ar gyfleusterau lleol fel ysgolion, canolfannau iechyd a phriffyrdd.”

Ychwanegodd Janet Finch-Saunders:

“Mae'n rhaid i Lywodraeth Lafur Cymru weithredu i fynd i'r afael â'r diffyg democrataidd yn y broses cynllun datblygu lleol.

“Ni all fod yn briodol i orfodi’r ardal i aberthu cymaint o safleoedd tir glas er lles datblygu diangen.'
