The European Parliament plenary session takes place in Strasbourg this week as well as a number of Committee meetings rescheduled from last week (due to a power cut in the EU quarter in Brussels on 19 September). Of interest to the work of the Assembly’s committees will be the Fisheries Committee meeting, which is expected to agree the rapporteurs for the package of legislative proposals for reform of the Common Fisheries Policy (published in July); and the Internal Market and Consumer Affairs Committee, which is due to adopt its report on the Modernisation of Public Procurement communication with a plenary vote foreseen for end of October. The European Parliament’s opinion is the final piece in the European Commission’s preparatory phase (which included a public consultation earlier this year) before legislative proposals are published (expected before the end of 2011) to revise the current EU public procurement directives.
The 26 September is the European day of languages and a number of events will take place across Europe to celebrate linguistic diversity.
