Janet Finch-Saunders, Assembly Member for Aberconwy and Shadow Minister for Local Government is hosting a reception with the Alzheimer’s Society to mark the launch of Dementia Supportive Communities in Wales.
Around 43,600 people in Wales today are living with dementia and research published by the Alzheimer’s Society suggests this could rise by a third in coming years.
The reception will be held on 16th April 2013 at the National Assembly for Wales Senedd Building and the focus will be on how policymakers and carers can make Wales dementia supportive and achieve the National Dementia Vision.
The event itself will be attended by Assembly Members, Alzheimer’s Society representatives, carers and patients, and those attending will have a warm welcome from their hosts, including a performance from the Singing for the Brain choir and an opportunity to hear from dementia sufferers and carers about their experiences in the care system and communities. The event will be topped off with an awards ceremony.
Janet said: "I am delighted and honoured to sponsor this event on behalf of the Alzheimer’s Society. The launch of the Dementia Supportive Communities is a very important part of addressing and changing behaviour at all levels of society towards those suffering from dementia."
