First Minister must reconsider un-progressive policy

Wednesday, 3 October, 2012

Janet Finch-Saunders, Assembly Member for Aberconwy, today called on the First Minister of Wales to justify his party’s costly policy of free prescriptions for all, which was questioned by the leader of the Scottish Labour Party only last week.

Janet said: “The reintroduction of a small prescription charge would affect only 11% of prescriptions in Wales. The leader of the Labour party in Scotland, Johann Lamont, has questioned how forward-thinking the policy of free prescriptions is:

‘What is progressive about a chief executive on more than £100,000 a year not paying for his prescriptions, while a pensioner…has their care…cut?’

“Surely it is now time for a rethink on this policy, or is this yet another clear example of lazy Labour in Welsh Government?”
