Janet Finch-Saunders AM has expressed her disappointment at the announcement that the Llanrwst branch of HSBC is to close on 23 June 2017.
Janet said:
“I am exceptionally disappointed that HSBC have announced the closure of the bank after it has served numerous generations of families in Llanrwst – since it first opened as the Midland Bank.
“This is a sad indictment of the times. Farmers, older people and families alike will be concerned about how they will be able to do their banking in the future. It is essential for banks across the country to be supporting the local communities in which they have a presence.
“A lot of my constituents really value their bank having a high street presence, and this news will be a considerable blow to the community of Llanrwst, and the wider Conwy valley, especially since the closure of the HSBC branch in Betws-y-Coed now means that the nearest branch will now be Llandudno.
“I urge all those affected by this proposal to put pen to paper and make their thoughts known to HSBC. I shall certainly be making representation to highlight the impact this closure may have on the community.”
Notes
Since 2011 there have been 108 bank closures in Wales (47 HSBC, 43 NatWest and 18 Barclays)
- Banks and the Post Office would co-operate in its establishment to maintain an over-the-counter service in rural Wales, housed in ‘neutral’ branches.
- The Financial Conduct Authority and Competition & Markets Authority would be urged work with banks on improvements to inter-bank agency agreements.
- The Welsh Government would play a key role facilitating discussions and driving progress forward.
On 9 January 2017 Dr James Davies MP called for the public to protest over North Wales bank closures.
