There are plans for a new Culture Centre in the town of Conwy at the site of the old Bodlondeb school, which would become a library for Conwy, Deganwy, and Llandudno Junction, a new centre for the museum and archive collections, a cafe and space for community, art and youth activities, and a community heritage hub.
The Heritage Lottery Fund has provided the finance for the development phase of the project.
Detailed plans can now be seen on the Conwy County Borough Website, and viewed at Conwy Library from November 1st to 29th.
Janet Finch-Saunders AM, the local Assembly Member, commented on the proposals: “I am pleased that the centre proposes to bring together our library and archive services, which should benefit locals and researchers’
“It is good news that the proposal is promising to include a community heritage hub”
“The Centre should be an asset to us the people of Aberconwy and tourists as I understand that the hub would promote both family and local history. I would hope that this would help improve our awareness of the great wealth of history that characterises our landscape and home, familiarising us with some lesser known histories or sites of the area, such as Pen y Gaer – the site of a Bronze and Iron Age Hill fort near Llanbedr-y-Cennin, and Llanrhychwyn Church: the oldest in Wales!”
“I have become a strong supporter and follower of the archive service in Lloyd Street, Llandudno. Moving this to the culture centre could possibly be beneficial to all: increasing use and resulting in a greater awareness and appreciation of the important work done by the service.”
