Cllr Janet Finch-Saunders AM has held a meeting with Ann Beynon, Director BT Wales over the issue of broadband cover in Aberconwy. Parts of Aberconwy are still not serviced by high-speed broadband, despite the investment in broadband technologies at the Welsh Government offices at Llandudno Junction. Such public investments can potentially have a beneficial knock-on effect to the surrounding areas if invested in wisely.
Janet raised the question of future broadband investments in Aberconwy and Ms Beynon advised that BT was investing in both Ethernet and Fibre to Cabinet broadband technologies, emphasising that accessibility to such technologies would be dependent on the market and therefore partnership with the government would be needed to ensure access in rural areas.
In response to a question tabled on 10th August by Janet, Edwina Hart AM, the Minister for Business, Enterprise, Technology and Science stated that the Welsh Government expected to award the contract for Next Generation Broadband for Wales by March 2012.
Janet will continue her campaign to ensure that all of Aberconwy is connected to high-speed broadband and is serviced by quality mobile phone coverage. She will also press for a public meeting in the constituency with BT to discuss these issues.
Cllr Janet Finch-Saunders AM’s new constituency office on Madoc Street, Llandudno is scheduled to open shortly.
