260 men attended the free prostate cancer screening clinic held here in Llandudno last week.
The event which the Lions Club of Llandudno worked so hard to pay for and organise gained support from Aberconwy AM and changed the lives of 10% of all men who took the test.
Of the 260 men who attended the clinic 250 blood tests were received and analysed to be ranked using a traffic-light system: Red to go straight to a urologist; Amber need to see a Dr within a month; Green: clear. Here in Llandudno:
- 225 were green
- 8 were amber
- 17 were red
Janet said:
“25 men now have a chance to fight for their lives, hopefully saving countless family and friends from unimaginable grief.
“That 10% tested positive in one clinic shows how serious prostate cancer is: more than 600 men die every year from prostate cancer in Wales.
“Each test costed around £20 meaning that the Club selflessly spent around £5,000 on the tests alone!
“I would like to thank Mr Stuart Lowndes, President of Llandudno Lions Club, and all the members for dedicating a whole year to raising the money to pay for this life changing clinic”.
