Since the fire of 1994, the site of the former Pier Pavilion in Llandudno has remained empty and something of an eye-sore to local residents and visitors alike.
Commenting on the site, Janet Finch-Saunders, Assembly Member for Aberconwy, said:
“The Pier Pavilion site is a prime location in our wonderfully vibrant and busy resort town of Llandudno. Why it hasn’t been picked up for redevelopment before now is a mystery to many.
“Over the years, I understand that Conwy County Borough Council has held discussions with a number of developers, but nothing has come to fruition, with no formal pre-application discussions having taken place in the last 12-18 months.
“Meanwhile, the site has laid empty – in a focal position within the designated Llandudno Conservation Area – for over 20 years. We need to push forward with promoting the unique location, and distinctive development opportunities offered by this site to attract serious potential investors, and ensure that we don’t see another 20 years of abandonment here.”
Conwy County Borough Council has previously admitted concerns that the appearance of the site risks damaging the town’s image for tourists.
