Janet Finch-Saunders AM has called for continued consideration by the Petitions Committee on the matter of protecting the razor clams on Llanfairfechan beach.
It had initially been proposed to close the petition, following confirmation from the Cabinet Secretary that the fishery will remain closed until 31st December 2018.
However, Janet said:
“It is essential that the Committee continues with its scrutiny of the Welsh Government over this issue.
“Until the findings of the razor clam stock assessment, being undertaken whilst the fishery is closed, are known, I want to ensure that the Cabinet Secretary is held to account on this matter.
“These beds are essential to the local environment and ecosystem, as well as the tourism economy of Llanfairfechan.
“The Welsh Government must ensure that their actions in this regard are purposeful and productive – that this is not just a tokenistic closure of the fishery. The Petitions Committee must continue their work on this matter until this is resolved.”
It has been resolved that this Petition will remain open [23-01-2018].
