The Shadow Minister for Local Government has welcomed the news that despite efficiency savings, 73 per cent of key performance indicators for councils have improved during the year.
Janet Finch-Saunders AM said: “This just goes to show, that despite all of the rhetoric of savage cuts coming from the Welsh Labour Government, the ability of councils to work smarter and to still deliver quality services to local people are not mutually exclusive.
“In 73 per cent of the 30 indicators there was an improvement in 2012/13 from comparable figures for 2011/12.
“It is also welcome news that this figure was not isolated to just a few councils. In all, the gap in performance between the best and worst councils was narrowed in just over half of the indicators.
“Our councils deliver many vital services and I offer my heartfelt congratulations to all those that have strived to drive up performance figures.
“I would now call on all councils across Wales to keep up this wonderful momentum in delivering quality services in a smarter, more efficient, manner.”
