Janet Finch-Saunders MS recently took part in an official visit to the Wylfa site on Anglesey, followed by the new Gwyndod site, to learn more about the future of nuclear energy in North Wales and the opportunities presented by Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).
The visit began at the former Wylfa power station, where the Member met with Stuart Law, Sit Director at Wylfa, to hear about the ongoing decommissioning programme, the site’s history and its continued importance to the region. During the afternoon, the Member visited the new Gwyndod site and met with Stephen Bray, of Great British Energy – Nuclear, where discussions focused on plans for future SMR development and the potential benefits for energy security, skilled employment and economic growth across North Wales.

“It was extremely valuable to visit both the former Wylfa site and the new Gwyndod site to better understand the opportunities and challenges facing the future of nuclear energy in North Wales.
The legacy of Wylfa demonstrates the important role nuclear has played in supporting skilled jobs and our economy. Looking ahead, Small Modular Reactors have the potential to provide reliable, low-carbon energy while creating high-quality employment and attracting further investment into our region.
North Wales has a proud nuclear heritage, and it is important that we continue to make the case for investment that delivers long-term benefits for local communities, strengthens our energy security and supports economic growth.”
Yn ddiweddar, cymerodd Janet Finch-Saunders AS ran mewn ymweliad swyddogol â safle Wylfa ar Ynys Môn, ac yna safle newydd Gwyndod, i ddysgu mwy am ddyfodol ynni niwclear yn y Gogledd a'r cyfleoedd a gyflwynir gan Adweithyddion Modiwlar Bach (SMRs).
Dechreuodd yr ymweliad yn hen orsaf bŵer Wylfa, lle cyfarfu'r Aelod â Stuart Law, Cyfarwyddwr Safle Wylfa, i glywed am y rhaglen ddatgomisiynu barhaus, hanes y safle a'i bwysigrwydd parhaus i'r rhanbarth. Yn ystod y prynhawn, ymwelodd yr Aelod â safle newydd Gwyndod a chwrdd â Stephen Bray o Great British Energy – Nuclear, lle canolbwyntiodd y trafodaethau ar gynlluniau ar gyfer datblygu Adweithydd Modiwlar Bach yn y dyfodol a'r manteision posibl ar gyfer diogeledd ynni, cyflogaeth fedrus a thwf economaidd ledled y Gogledd.

Mae gan y Gogledd dreftadaeth niwclear falch, ac mae'n bwysig ein bod yn parhau i gyflwyno’r achos dros fuddsoddiad sy'n darparu manteision hirdymor i gymunedau lleol, yn cryfhau ein diogeledd ynni ac yn cefnogi twf economaidd."
