Following a recent statement from North Wales Police regarding last Friday’s public meeting on Anti-Social Behaviour and criminal activity in Llandudno, Janet Finch-Saunders MS, Senedd Member for Aberconwy, has voiced her disappointment over the negative stance taken by members of NWP who were present at the meeting.

Janet has said:

"The meeting held at the Grand Hotel, Llandudno was considered a huge success by those attending,

“During the meeting, there was a frank admission from the panel—including two serving Police Inspectors and the North Wales Police Crime Commissioner—that the recent spates of poor behaviour, ASB and criminal activity were at levels that would not be tolerated. It was agreed that stronger enforcement measures were needed from all responsible agencies to address these issues in the town.

"Indeed, the figures quoted in recent news articles were those released at the meeting itself by North Wales Police. Many residents and business owners spoke up to explain that this was causing a blight on their lives.

"There were also concerns that reporting incidents to North Wales Police was not straightforward, with some individuals mentioning that despite calling 101, they felt their concerns and the incidents themselves had not been properly addressed.

“The absence of CCTV and the potential for further cuts to this service by the Local Authority were also highlighted, along with concerns about the recent fire at Llandudno Hospital and the ongoing vandalism of the newly installed shelters on Llandudno Promenade.

"Overall, the issues discussed and the actions agreed upon to move forward were viewed as a positive step by those in attendance.

“Reading their contradictory version of events, especially with one police officer not even present at the meeting, while downplaying the seriousness of the issues faced by many of my constituents, is certainly not helpful in fostering a positive working relationship.

“I have therefore written to the Chief Constable, requesting a more effective and communicative approach to working together going forward.

“This is crucial for restoring public confidence in our enforcement authorities and breaking the current cycle of unacceptable behaviour by some individuals.”
