The designation of North-West Wales as a ‘Low TB’ zone has been welcomed by Aberconwy Assembly Member, Janet Finch-Saunders, as the Welsh Government announce their latest Wales TB Eradication Programme Delivery Plan.
Janet said:
“TB is a serious issue here in Wales, with almost 10,000 cattle having been slaughters due to the disease between March 2016 and 2017.
“Fortunately, in North-West Wales there is a far lower risk, with only 7 new incidents having been recorded for the end of 2016, in comparison to 15 in the North-East, and 73 in Mid and South East Wales.
“I welcome the announcement that from 1 October 2017 pre-movement testing will not be required for cattle moved within or from our Low TB area.
“It is also reassuring that all cattle moved into the area will need a post-movement test. Surely, this will help stamp out TB in Aberconwy and North-West Wales.
“However, the Welsh Government must closely monitor the impact of their regulations on our hardworking farmers, and do more to tackle the disease in wildlife in Intermediate and High risk zones”.
