The Economy and Place Overview and Scrutiny Committee of Conwy County Borough Council are due to consider a report which proposed introducing 4-weekly bin collections across the Council going forward, on 20th November 2017. Ahead of the meeting next week, Janet Finch-Saunders, AM for Aberconwy, said:
“The considerable public outcry against the trial in the past will, undoubtedly, be raised once again in view of these proposals.
“The potential damage to our environment and tourism industry caused by increased fly-tipping and pests will, inevitably, cost our local industry and the council more – both directly and indirectly.
“I am strongly opposed to this proposal. Residents, particularly our families and older population, will really struggle with monthly bin collections – especially over the summer months where the heat may affect waste left out for so long, and when holidays may mean that some residents have to wait two months to have their refuse collected.
“The suggestion of a move to 4-weekly bin collections is a step too far, and I call on the Council’s Cabinet to put such suggestions on hold until an alternative, workable resolution can be found, to include a full and open consultation with residents.”
