Welsh NHS recruitment issues raised
 
Janet Finch-Saunders AM/AC today challenged First Minister Carwyn Jones over issues of recruitment to the NHS in Wales.

Janet highlighted the BMA Wales’ concern that the Welsh Government’s refusal to implement the 1% pay rise recommended by the Doctor’s and Dentist’s Review Board.

This means consultants in Wales will earn 5% less than their UK counterparts, meaning the NHS in Wales will find it tougher to recruit the brightest and best to Wales. 

Scotland has chosen to implement the pay rise.

Janet Finch-Saunders AM/AC said: “The Welsh Labour Government is consistently sticking its’ head in the sand over the NHS in Wales. With doctors themselves warning over the difficulty to attract staff it is high time that the Welsh Government starts listening and taking their concerns on board.”

“I call on the Welsh Government to sit down with representatives from the BMA Wales in order to look at the long term issues surrounding recruitment into the Welsh NHS, ensuring its future ability to deliver for Welsh Patients.”
