‘Devil in detail’ on Conwy/Denbighshire merger talks

Commenting on Conwy council’s decision to open talks with Denbighshire council over a possible voluntary merger - on the day the Labour government urged councils to merge voluntarily - Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Local Government Janet Finch-Saunders AM, said:

“The devil is in the detail and any merger must be in the best interests of local residents and frontline services.

“Conwy council’s decision deserves a cautious welcome but assurances that communities will be put first are now required.

“Local government across Wales remains in turmoil; over-inflated senior pay and a lack of Labour government leadership have left the future in disarray.

“It is up to the new Labour minister to lead appropriately and ensure that local services are at the top of the agenda.”
