Speaking during the Welsh Conservative debate Aberconwy AM Janet Finch-Saunders highlighted how the Welsh Labour Government has consistently missed its own waiting time targets across the NHS in Wales, from ambulance response times right through to accessing vital diagnostic services.
Pointing out that the Health Service in Wales was the responsibility of the Welsh Labour Government she said “With devolution came the control of responsibility of the Health Service in Wales and we have a right to ask whether they have delivered on their own manifesto promises and indeed its own government mandate.”
“Funding to the NHS in Wales has been cut by the Welsh Government and there are huge projected future shortfalls”
“Speaking about the waiting times for colonoscopy diagnostic referrals she expressed shock to learn that some GP’s feel that even the urgent referral time is much too long a delay. The number of children waiting more than 14 weeks for mental health treatment has soared to 736 in January 2014 compared from 199 in January 2013”
She added: “This is shameful and it is clear that the Minister and the Welsh Government need to get a grip on this crisis.”
