ABERCONWY AM votes to protect maternity services at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd
During today’s Welsh Conservatives Debate at the National Assembly for Wales, Aberconwy Assembly Member, Janet Finch-Saunders, called on the Welsh Government to intervene and prevent the withdrawal of consultant-led maternity services at Ysbyty Glan Clywd.
The Assembly Member noted that under the Health Board’s proposals there will be at least three emergency transfers a week. Those mothers and their babies will be forced to travel for 50 to 60 minutes, either to Wrexham Maelor or Ysbyty Gwynedd.
Commenting on the time it takes to travel between the hospitals, the AM said:
“There is an increased risk to expectant mothers, if they have to travel more than 20 minutes or 28 miles.”
The AM added:
“The people of North Wales have made their opposition to the Health Board’s proposals known through a 15,000 name petition, 2,000 strong protest rally in Rhyl and public meeting in St Asaph.”
“The North Wales Community Health Council has written to the First Minister, and doctors in North Wales have today announced the passing of a vote of no confidence in the Health Board.”
“The Welsh Government must intervene and stop this downgrade now.”
