ABERCONWY AM calls for action to protect the vulnerable
Janet Finch-Saunders has described yesterday’s Plenary session as, “one of the most distressing,” throughout her four years as Assembly Member for Aberconwy.
Speaking about the report by Donna Ockenden into patient care on the Tawel Fan ward at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, in an Urgent Debate tabled by the Welsh Conservatives, the AM said:
“Having to utilise my time in the Chamber to recount some of the most shocking and heart-breaking stories of human rights abuse I have ever known was very difficult for me.”
Noting a list of recent failures within the Health Board area, the Member addressed the Minister for Health and Social Services saying:
“The buck stops with you. Please intervene and ensure that there are special measures placed on the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. I do wonder: how bad does it have to get? How much must our patients and their families suffer before you actually take full responsibility for what has happened and take action to prevent a history from repeating itself?”
The AM added:
“My thoughts are with the patients and families of those subject to this horrific mal-treatment.”
