Janet Finch-Saunders AM attended the launch event for Women2Win Wales at the Welsh Conservative Party Conference on Friday – with the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Theresa May MP, and the Secretary of State for Wales, the Rt. Hon. Alun Cairns MP.
Women2Win Wales is a broad cross-section of women and men from the Welsh Conservatives who want to ensure that women are fairly represented at all levels of politics.
Janet said:
“It is vital that the people of Wales are represented by a broad range of politicians that truly embody the makeup of our society. The particular time and energy the Prime Minister has put into this campaign shows just how high a priority this issue is for the Party.
“I firmly believe that any appointments or elections should be made entirely on merit – people should not be pushed up the list for election based purely on gender or any other characteristic, however we do need to encourage more women to come forward to stand for election.
“As more and more women become involved, the numbers will balance out for themselves, as I know we have such a vast array of exceptionally talented females within Aberconwy, and across North Wales.
“I would encourage women of any background who are interested in making a difference in their communities to consider getting involved and putting themselves forward to stand. There is plenty of support and mentoring opportunities available – and Women2Win Wales is an excellent initiative driving this forwards.
“If anyone is interested in becoming more involved, please do contact me further.”
