Following representations made by the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy – Janet Finch-Saunders MS – the Welsh Government has confirmed that it shall arrange for a pedestrian crossing assessment at Llwyn Brith to be undertaken next financial year.  The positive news was confirmed in a recent letter from the Deputy Minister for Transport, Lee Waters MS.

Discussing the progress, Janet said:  

“Having worked on this serious road safety issue throughout this Senedd term, I am most pleased to have been presented with a positive update of progress from the Welsh Government. This was crucial as this issue remains of considerable concern for residents on both sides of the A470, who face the challenge of crossing this highway safely.  

“For those residents in Parc yr Eryr, Llwyn Brith and Maes Melwr who use bus services, local children or the vulnerable who want to walk into town or school, they must regularly have to cross the A470. This poses a considerable safety issue to all road users, particularly at this time of year when driver visibility can be challenged. 

“The Deputy Minister has confirmed that an assessment to replace the uncontrolled crossing with a pedestrian crossing will be undertaken in the next financial year. I am reassured to hear that local case studies will be included in this assessment to underline its need. 

“As this crucial campaign for change continues, I shall look to ensure that this Welsh Government commitment is upheld. Working in lockstep with the local community, I am committed to finding sensible solutions that benefit both road users and pedestrians, protecting our children and vulnerable.”
