Cllr Janet Finch-Saunders AM challenged the Welsh Government to do more to help the economy. She said:
“The target set by the Welsh Government is that all business and residential premises in Wales will have access to Next Generation Broadband by 2015 and I fully support this.
“Full availability of Next Generation broadband would enable many businesses across Wales to access vast amounts of valuable information and resources and would also give an opportunity for businesses to boost their profile abroad thus helping to foster a more global outlook for enterprise in Wales.
“There are fears however, that the Welsh Government will miss its own target, with BT estimating that only 40% of premises in Wales will have access to next generation broadband by 2014.
“I call upon the Welsh Government to pull out all the stops to ensure that this target is not missed.”
Wnaeth Cyng. Janet Finch-Saunders AC herio Llywodraeth Cymru i wneud fwy i helpu’r economy. Dywedodd Janet:
“Targed Llywodraeth Cymru yw bydd pob busnes ac eiddo preswyl yng Nghymru ‘efo mynediad i’r genhedlaeth nesaf o band-eang erbyn 2015, a ‘rwyf yn cefnogi hyn yn gyfan gwbl.
“Byddai darpariaeth llawn o’r genhedlaeth nesaf o band-eang yn galluogi busnesau ar draws Cymru mynediad i symiau enfawr o wybodaeth gwerthfawr ac adnoddau a fyddai hefyd yn roi cyfle i fusnesau hybi eu proffil tramor, gan helpu i feithrin agwedd fwy byd-eang ar gyfer menter yng Nghymru.
“Mae yna amheuon, fodd bynnag, y bydd Llywodraeth Cymru yn methu eu targed, er enghraifft mae BT wedi amcangyfrifo mai dim ond 40% o safleoedd yng Nghymru fydd wedi cael eu darparu ‘efo band-eang erbyn 2014.
“Galwaf ar Lywodraeth Cymru i wneud popeth yn eu pwer i sicrhau bod y targed yma ddim yn cael ei fethu.”
