Assembly Member for Aberconwy, Janet Finch-Saunders AM, has written an open letter to the Leader and Chief Executive of Conwy County Borough Council, calling for the public consultation on Public Space Protection Orders to be opened immediately.
The Council confirmed in July that a public consultation would be brought forward.
The Public Spaces Protection Orders, which replaced Dog Control Orders, came into force on 20th October 2017.
Janet said:
“People are crying out to have their say on this huge public issue, and they are simply not being given the opportunity to do so.
“The Council initially advised that this consultation would be forthcoming over four months ago. The longer this goes on, the longer the public are being denied the chance to participate in the democratic process.
“The considerable public outcry that we have seen on this matter, and the hundreds of people who have attended demonstrations and marches, goes to show how strong feelings on this issue are locally – and beyond – and I urge the Council to bring forward this consultation as soon as possible.
“Hiding behind continued delays is simply not acceptable.”
