A public meeting has been called in response to repeated concerns reported by residents regarding the harvesting of razor clams from Llanfairfechan Beach.

Posts on social media have reported alleged anti-social behaviour, as well as concerns in relation to the amount of clams harvested and the methods used.

The Assembly Member for Aberconwy, Janet Finch-Saunders, who has called the meeting, said:

“The breadth of the concerns raised is considerable – and local residents have noted real issues in terms of the numbers of harvesters, the manner of harvesting, and alleged anti-social behaviour by some of those involved.

“Whilst the personal harvest of a small amount of shellfish is a wonderful way to take advantage of our natural resources, there limits on these are intended to ensure the conservation of the sea bed and wildlife.

“It is vital that this situation is monitored properly via a co-ordinated plan from Welsh Government, North Wales Police and Conwy County Borough Council, to ensure that residents are able to enjoy the safety and amenity of their homes and beach.”

The meeting will take place at The Split Willow, Penmaenmawr Road, Llanfairfechan, LL33 0PA, at 6:30pm on Monday 24th July 2017.
