Welsh Conservatives last night recorded local government victories in the north and south of the country.
In the Vale of Glamorgan, Rachel Nugent-Finn won the Cadoc by-election for Barry Town Council, and in Conwy, David Howcroft was last night elected to represent Dinerth on Colwyn Bay Town Council.
Commenting on the successes, Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Local Government, Janet Finch-Saunders AM, said:
“For far too long in Wales, the Labour Party has taken the public’s support for granted and this is evidenced by our declining high streets, our worsening public services, and our crumbling roads.
“Last night’s successes show the Welsh Conservatives are working hard in all four corners of the country, offering a positive vision for our communities.
“Congratulations to Rachel and David who have worked incredibly hard during their respective campaigns and showed there is a dynamic alternative to a Labour Party in Wales which has run out of ideas.”
Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Andrew RT Davies AM, said:
“These successes are testament to the enormous efforts of the candidates, Rachel and David, and the support provided by the Welsh Conservative team.
“After two decades of stagnation under Labour, people across the country want greater democratic accountability, better public services, and more say on the decisions that affect them.
“It’s now clearer than ever that people across Wales are moving away from the Labour Party, rejecting their tired and out-of-touch message with the Welsh Conservatives the only party offering a strong and real alternative.
“And after twenty years of Labour in Wales, people realise the socialists are unable to deliver a strong economy and strong public services.”
