Following a campaign started in September 2016 with the death of a horse on Sychant Pass, the Assembly Member for Aberconwy, Janet Finch-Saunders, has welcomed the new signage and commitment by Conwy County Borough Council to implement a speed reduction.
Janet said:
“Since the accident in 2016 residents and many local representatives have come together to campaign for a reduction of the 60mph speed limit on Sychant Pass.
“Whilst I have been calling for the limit to be halved to 30mph, I do welcome the commitment by the Council to bring it down to 40mph, and the fact that a section has been reduced to 25mph.
“I am also pleased that clear signage has been put in place, which should, hopefully, forewarn drivers of the number of hazards along the road.
- in all, this is a very positive outcome to a campaign which I was pleased to participate in. It is just a shame that a serious accident had to happen before Council action. Surely, it is time for Local Authorities and the Welsh Government have a more proactive rather than reactive approach to road safety”.
