Shadow Minister for Social Care, Children and Young People, Janet Finch-Saunders AM, has repeated her concerns over the Welsh Government’s so-called ‘smacking ban,’ following today’s warnings from senior police officers in Wales. Commenting, she said:
“We have known from the beginning stages of this proposal that there are many experts in the protection of children who have concerns over this law, and that’s why I spoke out on this topic in the Welsh Parliament in March.
“While we continue to strive to create the safest possible environment for our children here in Wales, this Welsh Labour Government proposal is poorly thought-through and unenforceable.
“It’s now essential that the new risk of children being removed from their family homes while cases are prosecuted forces the Welsh Government to stop in their tracks while they listen to the experts and work out the several grey areas around the law.”
