Cllr Janet Finch-Saunders AM today called on the Welsh Government to work to age-proof health services across Wales.
Janet said: “In a letter to Age Cymru in 2008, the previous Health Minister agreed that it was unacceptable for mental health patients to be treated differently because of their age.
“However, there is still is a discriminatory division between ‘adults of working age’ and ‘older people’.
“This division has allowed unfair systems to develop. Some people have even seen mental health services entirely withdrawn when they turn 65.
“I want to see clear steps being taken to place a specific duty on Local Health Boards to ‘age proof’ their policies and services to protect older people, especially those suffering from mental health issues.”
