The Met Office has issued yellow warnings associated with Storm Barra, as high winds hit areas of the network this afternoon and evening (7 December 2021), potentially causing some local disruption to electricity supplies.
What to do in the event of a weather-related power outage?
Given the size of the electricity network, power outages can happen at any time. However, larger scale power outages can happen during storms, with high winds, heavy rain, snow and flooding adversely affecting the network.
Should you wish to report a power outage or emergency you should call 105 to report or get information about power cuts in the local area. 105 is a free service, available to people in England, Scotland and Wales.
Alternatively you can contact the SP Energy Networks Emergency Customer Contact Number – 0800 001 5400 from a landline or mobile.
If you have internet access you can check the status of power cuts in the area by visiting the interactive power cuts map.
