Cllr Janet Finch-Saunders AM welcomed the work begun on Tuesday by BT on the infrastructure of a network which will deliver super-fast broadband to 15,000 homes and businesses in Wrexham.
Janet said: “This is an excellent development and the first step of what I hope will be a much greater push into North and West Wales.
“Fast, reliable broadband is essential to economic growth in North Wales, yet there are still areas, especially in my constituency of Aberconwy, without access to suitable and affordable broadband.
“I hope to see similar investment in the communications infrastructure for Aberconwy.
Janet agreed with the Secretary of State for Wales, Cheryl Gillian, who said yesterday that Wales needed to find innovative solutions to develop new communications and broadband networks.
Janet said: “The landscape of Aberconwy may not be ideal for the communications and broadband networks used with so much success in urban areas. We must be looking at new ways to ensure efficient broadband is provided to all.
“Alongside this must be provisions for improved mobile phone coverage in rural areas. Mobile phones are an integral part of modern life, and where broadband is unavailable, 3G networks provide valuable internet access.
“I will continue to campaign for full, effective telecommunications and broadband networks across Aberconwy.”
