Janet Finch-Saunders AM was delighted to meet with a number of local farmers and FUW members at Ysbyty Ifan recently. Many issues were discussed, and Janet is pleased to continue to be committed to being one of the minority of AMs who speaks out for agriculture and farmers in the Senedd.
Janet said:
“It was great meeting up with local farmers and FUW members in Ysbyty Ifan, and I would like to thank all who attended, and Mr Glyn Roberts, Chairman of FUW, for the kind reception I received at his farm.
“One of the main points that was clear from the meeting was that many in the agricultural industry are worried about Brexit. This is no surprise as it cannot be disputed that, for example, so far this year, 43,585 tonnes of mutton and lamb have been exported from the UK to EU countries, in comparison to 2,812 tonnes to non-EU countries.
“Evidently, access to the European market is important to the industry, so I am pleased that Prime Minister will be working to secure the best possible access to the market as part of a future trade agreement. Through this, and many others globally, I am hopeful that farmers will benefit in the long term.
“At present, I will continue to stand up for farmers in the Senedd, and hold Lesley Griffiths, Cabinet Secretary for Environment and Rural Affairs to account on many matters, including the Basic Payment Scheme. Indeed, it is unacceptable that farmers are not receiving their payments on time”.
